A New Kind of Beauty: Oika Art

I believe we are beginning to catch glimpses of a new kind of beauty. It's a beauty that has heretofore been invisible to modern humans. Oika refers to this kind of beauty. 

This emergent beauty can be disclosed to humans through art that imbues three intelligences:

• Nature’s intelligence is brought forth through the raw phenomena of light, pattern, texture, color and complexity. Life is an achievement of nature.
• Human intelligence builds on nature to contribute consciousness, affect, meaning and the wildcard of imagination. This intelligence of mind is gained through direct experience of natural phenomena and is expressed through symbol and language. Technology is a threshold achievement of human intelligence.
• Technological intelligence brings accelerated iteration and sheer processing power applied through algorithmic procedure. Artificial Intelligence is a threshold achievement of technology and provides a key revelatory constituent.

All of these intelligences are on a continuum of nature. That is to say, they differ not in kind but only in expression. While the source of this beauty is nature, it has now become accessible, ironically, with the arrival of artificial intelligence. 

As these three fields of intelligence begin to relate to each other, Oika Art positions itself as a bridge between the legacy of our material past and the promise of our virtual future. Oika Art is an attempt to heal the relationship between nature and culture through art.
