Announcing the Duxbury Origins Lab

In the Summer of 2026, Dr. Rich Blundell is piloting the Duxbury Origins Lab as a program that celebrates a community with unique ecologies and deep maritime roots. Our curriculum is grounded in direct experience of Duxbury's natural and cultural habitats.

Our goal is to share experiences that form deep reciprocal relationships with our place. These include swimming, sailing, fishing, lobstering, mudflat music concerts and sand bank dance parties. We'll learn to read the tides, create art, go oystering, take wetland walks, harvest cranberries, explore geological deep time at beach clambakes and stargaze around a campfire at the Gurnet.  These activities will emerge opportunistically as the summer unfolds through partnerships with local people, venues, and organizations.

We will gather as an informal affiliation of thoughtful people to provide organic mentorship and help each other along the way to learn and care for this special place we belong to.

Programming

Spring: Public Talks & Events

  • The project launches with speaking engagements introducing the methodology and inviting participation:
  • Traditional Venues: Such as the Art Complex Museum, Duxbury High School, Rural and Historical Society, First Parish Church
  • Signature Experiences: Sensorial dinners at local venues  combining local foods, ecological storytelling, and place-based learning.

Partnership Opportunities

  • Venue Partners: We're seeking hosts for spring talks—museums, churches, schools, civic organizations, restaurants. If you have a space where Duxbury gathers, let's talk.
  • Program Partners: Local farms, fisheries, maritime organizations, and cultural institutions interested in collaboration—from hosting activities to co-developing programming.
